Book Mail Monday: May 18, 2026

📦 BOOK MAIL MONDAY 📦 Today I’m opening a stack of upcoming releases across fantasy, romance, thriller, horror, historical fiction, and more 👀 From...Show more

There’s something deeply dangerous about opening book mail when publishers apparently decide to attack all your favorite genres at once.

Fantasy? Yep.
Romance? Obviously.
Dark romance? Unfortunately for my sanity, yes.
Thrillers? Always.
A slightly concerning amount of emotionally devastating literary fiction? Also yes.

This week’s stack honestly feels like the perfect representation of my reading taste as a whole: slightly chaotic, emotionally unstable, and full of books that will probably ruin my sleep schedule.

And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

⚠️ All books featured were gifted by publishers.

The Book Mail Lineup đź‘€

My Brilliant AI Boyfriend by Stella Hayward

This title alone immediately had my attention. AI stories can go in so many directions (unsettling, funny, deeply existential), and I’m really curious to see where this lands emotionally. I’m expecting humor mixed with commentary about loneliness, connection, and modern relationships, which honestly feels very timely right now.

Ember by Naima Simone

Naima Simone never misses when it comes to emotional intensity and chemistry, so this immediately went onto my “probably starting this way too late at night” pile. The vibes already feel dramatic, addictive, and slightly dangerous in the best possible way.

Strange Is the Light by Sarah Maria Griffin

This might be one of the books I’m most intrigued by purely based on atmosphere alone. Sarah Maria Griffin writes with this dreamy, uncanny quality that makes everything feel slightly off-balance, and I love stories that lean into unsettling beauty. Gothic, strange, emotional? Sign me up immediately.

Songbird in the Gallows by Alta Hensley

Look. Alta Hensley understands how to write dark romance that feels completely unhinged while still somehow making me emotionally invested. The second this showed up, I already knew this was going to become one of those “just one more chapter” books that accidentally turns into 3 a.m.

Dolly All the Time by Annabel Monaghan

Annabel Monaghan books always feel like they balance warmth and emotional vulnerability so effortlessly. Even when they’re funny, there’s usually this undercurrent of real loneliness or uncertainty underneath everything that makes the romance hit harder. I’m expecting this one to completely sneak up on me emotionally.

Murder by Design by Lee Goldberg

This feels like pure “dad thriller but make it fun” energy and I mean that affectionately. I’m always in the mood for a sharp, entertaining mystery that fully embraces being readable and fast-paced without trying too hard to be gritty or shocking.

Shadow Reaper by Lynette Noni

Lynette Noni writing fantasy automatically becomes a priority read for me. Her books always manage to hit that sweet spot between accessible and emotionally immersive, and I already know this one is going to dominate fantasy spaces online once people get their hands on it.

Game of Rogues by Julie Anne Long

I genuinely love historical romances that feel witty and character-driven instead of overly stiff, and Julie Anne Long is so good at creating chemistry through dialogue and tension. This feels like the kind of book I’ll want to curl up with during a thunderstorm.

Ash by Louise Wallace

This one immediately caught my attention because it feels quieter and more introspective than some of the others in this stack. I’ve really been craving books lately that sit in emotional complexity instead of rushing toward plot twists, and this feels like it might deliver exactly that.

Walk by Courtney Conley & Milica McDowell

Honestly? I’ve been trying to spend more time outside lately and reconnect with movement in a way that feels grounding instead of performative, so this arrived at the perfect time. I’m really interested in the connection between walking, nervous system regulation, mental clarity, and creativity.

Nobody’s Quest by Alyssa Day

The title alone feels chaotic fantasy adventure in the best way. I’m expecting humor, found family energy, ridiculous situations, and at least one character who becomes everyone’s emotional support disaster.

Current Most Anticipated đź‘€

If I had to pick the books I’m most immediately tempted to start, it would probably be:

✨ Strange Is the Light
✨ Shadow Reaper
✨ Songbird in the Gallows
✨ Dolly All the Time

Which basically confirms that I personally enjoy emotional damage across multiple genres equally.

As always, I’ll be sharing full reviews, reading updates, and probably some emotionally unstable reactions once I start making my way through these.

And if you watched the full Book Mail Monday video over on YouTube, thank you 🫶

❓Which of these would you pick up first?
